Race Month!

Welcome May!

As of today, "my next race" as displayed on the left side bar is officially the marathon. Two weeks to go!

April was my peak month for training this cycle with long runs of 25K (15.5mi), 35K (22mi), 32K (20mi) and 37K (23mi) [all of which completed within 10s/km of goal marathon pace] plus 6 speed sessions and two races.

With all of the above, I achieved a new monthly mileage reocrd with 198 mi / 319 KM.

I was able to start taper feeling strong and confident. I'm excited about race day and my primary goal at this point is to stay healthy.

Unfortunately Friday's "long" run didn't go as planned. My knee was feeling a little tight and I started noticing some twinges on the outside (IT band, anyone?). Earlier in training, I likely would have stretched it out and finished the run, but I'm not taking any chances at this point. I called it quits around 12K and have been focusing on stretching and rolling this weekend.

Taking this into consideration, it was easy to make the smart choice for roday's race and not go after that PR! Race Report and fundraising giveaway winner to follow!

2 weeks to go!! Yay!! Your mileage is amazing! You are VERY smart to end your run early. IT band issues SUCK (I'm dealing with one right now).

Impressive work on those long runs! You will crush your goal for sure as long as your knee stays healthy. I found that a twice a day stretching and twice a week gym/weights regimen really helped me with my knee issues over the last few months.

Glad you decided to take it easy! It definitely could be your IT band. I would say foam roll it if you have one. Otherwise just try to stretch it out.

Hoping the weather is good for race day! 200 miles for one month is really a lot of mileage, i typically hit that level in thesummer, the spring it`s almost unheard of (I hit 196 in March for my peak month for Boston)
