Bring on 2009

With the new year upon us, I thought it might be a good time to run down my plans the 2009. There have been some changes from my reveal several weeks ago, so here goes.

January 25: Robbie Burns 8K Road Race

March 1: Chilly Half Marathon

March 29: Around the Bay 30K

April 26: Hartwell Challenge Half Marathon Relay (local)

May 9: Mississauga Marathon - 5K or 10K

May 17: Bluenose International Marathon (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

May 31: Toronto Women’s Half Marathon

June 7: MudRun 10K

June 20: Toronto City Chase

July 11: Rebecca Run 5K
(local)

July 19: Nissan 10 Miler at The Toronto Distillery

August 22: A Mid Summer Night’s Run - 15K or 30K

September 27: Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon

October 18: Toronto Marathon

With some urging from Frayed Laces, I've also decided to share one of my new year's resolutions.

I resolve to do real ("man") push-ups. I'm tired of having to run to the storage room to grab a mat for under my knees when my boot camp instructor orders "Drop and give me twenty!" (Especially when she notices and reminds me ever so kindly that I wouldn't need a mat if I could do them on my toes...) I can do 3 or 4 decent push-ups, but I'm aiming for at least 20 or 25.

Happy New Year!

you have a very busy race schedule lined up! Awesome! I'll see you at some of them :) Good luck with the pushups! funny about the mat thing LOL -- never thought about it that way!

Great schedule!

Good luck with the real pushups. I started off only able to do one or two. When I stick with it, I can do sets of 15, 10, 5. I want to be able to do 15, 12, 10. For some reason, I feel all strong like I can do anything when I can do pushups. :-)

That's a great schedule of races. Wow.

As for the push ups -- you can totally do them. When I was attempting the 100 push up challenge, I started out weak but really built my way up. Slow and steady is the way to go. Do short sets and just keep adding on. You'll do it!

Wow, that is a full schedule to keep you out of trouble : ) It will be great to read all the race reports.

Good luck on the "man" push ups. I can't do one to save my life!

I have difficulty doing more than 10 real pushups. I should probably work on that!

that is a serious schedule!! Good luck with those pushups---that is a really good goal for 09. I might be adding that to my list as well

Glad you running the Robbie Burns. I promise I won't wuss out of this one (LOL). I also forgot that I am signed up for the Women HM. It was ages ago, when a friend sent me that link. Looks like a great plan Marlene. I can't wait to read all about your 2009 adventures. All of the best in 2009!

You're doing Robbie Burns?

The start line is 1.5km from my house, we are definitely going to meet up then!

And that is how I made myself learn pushups too. I don't know if Tracey has ever threatened you guys with a set of 50, but I used to be able to do most of those on my toes. Now, 3 years removed from regular boot camp, I can only do about 25 real pushups :(

Looks like a fun race schedule. Great resolution with the push ups. I too know I could do real push ups if I tried, but just keep doing them on my knees!

Wow that looks like one hardcore and totallly fun schedule for the year. I look forward to your blog reports.

Rock those push ups, girly. You can do it! And I wish you all the best in 2009.

Your list of races still is amazing to me! You are going to be busy this year! I have trouble with push ups too - thats a good goal to shoot for!

Looks like an awesome list of races :) You are gonna rock!

I can do, like, one man-pushup...but I look pretty silly. You are awesome for having that as a resolution :)

Did you ever try the 100 puch ups challenge that everyone was doing last summer? That's a great way to build up your push up stamina with the regular push up. Plank is also good practice for them.

Great schedule! Its always good to have at least a tentative schedule to start out the year. And you will get the pushups conquered. Just add a few at a time each time and before you know it you'll be up to 20 or 25. You won't believe how strong you'll feel!

So you're on a two-marathon year huh? Cool! Awesome schedule and busy one too. I'm still putting mine together and I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of same races.

After last year's hot day, I'm also considering the Toronto Marathon instead of the Waterfront. We'll see..

I love the pushups resolution! I used to be able to do about 15 real ones, but now I max out at like 2 if I actually go all the way down. Are you going to use the 100 Pushups Challenge to do it?

Happy New Year! :)

Wow! Look at all those races. You are going to be a very busy girl. What fun!

Good luck on the push ups. I think I may add that to my list for 09. I was getting into doing them again last year, but stopped. I need to work more on my upper body this year,

It looks like we'll be seeing a lot of each other over the next year! :) Looks like you've got a great year planned. I LOVE! the man pushup GOAL (sorry, I'm not a big fan of resolutions. Set yourself a deadline, be SMART about it and just do it:))

Real "man" push ups - ha - LOVE IT! I have absolutely NO upper body strength. My husband laughs at my puny little arms. I really do need to get to the gym...

Great race line-up!

P.S.: I love your 1000 mile goal for last year! You've inspired me. I'm shooting for 1000 this year. THANKS!!!
