Honestly, where do the weekends go?
I'm happy to report that I successfully accomplished my painting project. I can't spill any details just yet because I want to surprise hubby when he comes home this weekend and I know he'll be snooping on here for details. :) I will say that painting makes for excellent cross-training, but I also found it kind of therapeutic. I look forward to tackling the next room!
My 16mi-26K run went really well yesterday. It was a cool, overcast morning - ideal running weather. We set out just before 7:30 and the time just flew by once we were running. We took some country roads and reveled in the peace and quiet. I felt great the entire time despite a pretty hilly route.
With yesterday's run, I polished off the week with another milestone of 65K/40mi. Looking back at last year's mileage while training for a September marathon, I maxed out at 51K/32mi. Ummm, no wonder I bonked so hard during the race! As the weeks go on, I think I'll post a little comparison of my weekly and monthly training mileage - this year vs. last year. I'm definitely approaching things differently this time around and hoping it pays off big time in September.
Enough about me!
Drop by Lil Runner's Virtual Bake Sale to bid on my power bar squares (or an assortment of other yummy goodies) for charity.
And Tall Mom is having a fun t-shirt giveaway, so make sure you check that out!
Last but not least, congratulations to Denise for completing her first ultra this weekend! Check out her race report. Congrats Denise!

It's awesome to compare last training to this one. YOu are doing great, way to go on the strong 16 miler!! :)
Painting as x-training? :) If only eating banana bread counted as training.... lol.
Congrats on your 40 mile week; that is such a huge accomplishment!
nice job on a 40 mile week, i have yet to hit one too. and when i was thinking back on my marathon, i feel the same way you do. i think my weekly mileage was to low. so great job! sounds like you had a great weekend. call me sick, but i love painting walls! so gratifying.
Nice job on the mileage!! I think that with what you learned last time and your steady, strong training, you will have a great marathon in Sept :)
Great mileage for the week!
it will be so cool to see a side by side comparison!!! running definitely evolves, that's one thing i have learned. sometimes i wonder how i would feel about going back to ALL shorter distances all the time. but i'm super excited to try out a marathon in october.
Eek!! Maybe I better up my mileage...I top out at 38 miles and that's only if I do a 20-miler that week. My training plan actually only takes me up to 18 miles, but I thought it would be wise to at least do one 20-miler. I'd love to see the comparison training charts! Great job getting your painting job done. It is quite a workout!
Painting is most certainly x-training! And there is something soothing about getting into the rhythm of it. But not if it's painting a bathroom. That just invokes cursing in my experience.
Can't wait for the big "unveil"!
ahhh the Ultra?! That just scares the crap out of me. haha
great job on the increasing mileage! It would be fun to compare your training weeks this summer to last summer - it'll be even better when you kick butt on the marathon this year!! ;)
Kudos to you on your increased mileage. It will definitely help you on your next race.
Great mileage last week!!
Glad the run went so well! I am positive you are in much better shape than last year! You are really rocking the running girl!
Wow, that's great that you had such a nice 16miler!! I'm not entirely sure I'd be able to make it through in "peace and quite"...I'd probably complain the whole way!! :)
Nice job!!!
Yes, I agree, painting is cross training! Same goes for hours of vaccuuming, washing floors, cleaning bathrooms, and doing laundry! LOL
Sounds like you had a great 16 miler too! Congrats and I can't wait to see the paint job!
Way to go on the long run! And way to go on the 20 miles. I'm hitting 20 each week these days and barely making it, so I'm really impressed!
Good mileage Marlene! I can't wait to see the paint reveal!
i love comparing my prior training cycles :) its so awesome to see the improvements!
That's a lot of miles in one week. No doubt you'll do awesome at the TWM.
Painting can count as stretching too if you paint in weird positions :)
I was looking forward to hear about the electrolytes. How did they work out for you?
Good work already on upping the mileage. You will be more than ready for the marathon!
Can't wait to see pictures!! You are doing a great job on the running front, keep it up.
Congrats on the run! Woo hoo!'
Keep on keeping on girl!
painting, therapeutic??? what kind of drugs are you on? :) i have some rooms that i have still yet to paint at my house... if you are bored... ;)
you are leaps and bounds ahead of last year! i love being able to look back and compare my previous training and remind myself how far i have come. i am sure you will see excellent improvements come sept!
You're too good to me!! Thanks!! I'm beaming over here!! *hugs*
