What's with this wind?

We've had a couple of days of near-constant 40 kph (25 mph) winds with gusts of 55kph (34 mph). For that reason, approximately 50% of my run yesterday was extremely easy and the other 50% was extremely difficult. Same goes for today's lunch run.

Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to be affecting my pace. I ran 15K at 5:42/KM (9:10/mi) yesterday and 10K at 5:26/KM (8:45/mi) today - both quite comfortably.

Aside from the wind, it's been sunny and clear, so I really can't complain.

Not long now til the long range forecast is available for May 16th - uh oh!

Still to come this week:

  • Shakin' up the Yasso's with 4 x 1600 with the group tomorrow night;
  • Early long run Friday after work to accommodate for Sunday's 10K.

Happy Hump Day!

You are so lucky that the windy does not slow you down! This morning it slowed me (with the jogger) by 30+sec/mile! I felt like I was giving the needed effort but my pace sure doesn't show it. Ugh! Well, it can't be windy forever, right?!

Busy rest of the week. Incase I don't make rounds. Run strong at your race! and enjoy your long run!

I KNOW! We have that some wind here. I just 7.5 in it, not fun except when it's pushing my butt. Curious, what pace do you hope to do your 800s at? I'm supposed to do 8 x 800 yassos tomorrow, but thinkign I might do 4 x 1600.

Glad to hear the wind isn't really affecting your pace. We have wind gusts here from 32 to 47 mph and there's no way in h*ll you will find me running in that... plus I have swim team tonight! LOL

Nice job with such speedy consistency in the face of wind! I think wind is probably my least favorite running element. I do not do well running in to it!

The wind here has been crazy too! I had the same 50/50 thing going on this past weekend. I figured it is good practice for if it is windy on a race day. :)

Snowy here! We ended up with more than a foot and lots of people without elec. But it is supposed to get up to 80s this weekend. Crazy! Have fun at your 10K.

Impressive that your pace is not affected so much by the wind- I think the wind is so tough. It's been windy here too and rainy...yuck.

I tend to run faster when it's windy, maybe because I hate it too.

Mississauga in 19 days! You'll have a great race.

You are so cute! I wish we could find a month in advance forecast! I remember worrying about the weather in Boston the month before! Things changed right up until the race though! Happy H DAY!

We have crazy wind here too!

Why'd you have to mention long range forecasts for May 16th? I'm going to be all over that now! :)

Gah, from reading above, I guess it's just windy EVERYWHERE (same in DC) right now. I'm so confused by wind, seriously, where does it come from at such ridiculous speeds?! Either way, at least you figured out how to run With it for half the fun :)

Let's hope the wind lets up by race day, but it's awesome that you've been able to keep your pace up DESPITE the wind!

I've been checking the weather forecasts like crazy for this Sunday!

The wind has been bad here too! I guess it's all over. I'm hoping there is none for both of us on May 16th!

Not too bad when the wind is on your back during the back stretch. :) Oh, and why you gotta make me feel slack with your 1600 repeats?

I love how far in advance we all start trying to check the weather for our races :)

I like to think the wind is just a good training tool, giving me like a strength workout
