10 Miles to Kick Off September

Crazy to think this was my 9th consecutive MWMLR of this training cycle! The mid-week distances used to seem so daunting, but this morning I had a "fall-back" to 16K/10mi and it actually seemed kinda short.

I had a rough go of my first 10-miler on a Wednesday back on July 7th. This morning's conditions were similar (94% humidity - blech!), but I felt okay other than being drenched after 5 minutes.

I had a buddy to meet up with for a change this morning. I ran the first part solo and enjoyed company for the last 10K or so. It was strange having someone to talk to during a dark morning run, but it definitely helped pass the miles.

Speaking of dark, summer is definitely winding down. The sun doesn't rise until after (or the very end) of my morning runs these days. Many of you have commented on running in the dark. The truth is, I enjoy it (even at the track)! But I'm thinking I should maybe invest in a head lamp...

16.0K (9.94mi) - 1:31:04 - 5:42/KM (9:10/mi)

Happy September!

Been noticing the darkness in the AM too. It's kind of sad cause I love summer. Great job on the MLR.

I don't like running in the dark. I wait til the sun comes up. And when that doesn't leave me with enough time before work, I start running in the evenings.

Sounds like a great albeit humid run. The sun isn't showing his face till almost 6:30 although it is light around 6am. I've been out on the bike dodging skunks and raccoons, don't want to hit one of those first thing in the O'Dark A.M.

I miss having someone to talk to. My running partner recently had a baby so for the last year I've been running solo! My hubby joins me from time to time, but he doesn't talk....so I have just gotten so used to not having someone help me pass the miles...that explains maybe why running has been such a struggle for me lately!!!

i love running in the dark but i find my form is very stiff b/c i'm scared of falling/tripping, etc. i bet a track would be better for me b/c it's even ground...

Wow, awesome job on the 10 miler! I can't believe it's mid-week already. I'm all out of whack.

I am loving the dark running in the morning, although it can be scary at times. I need to get new batteries in my headlamp! Great job on the ten!!

Make sure you are also wearing plenty of reflective items so that cars can see you!

Best way to start the Month, and morning :) Headlamp will soon be a must - you didn't use one during winter training?? I reluctantly bought it after about a month of having to run side by side w/ someone else at group runs just to see ;)

I think I prefer the cool lite mornings (at least on weekends).

I've debated the headlamp myself. I actually have one for camping, but I'm not sure if it will just annoy me because it will cause the light to be bouncy.

I should try it though.

running in the dark is tough, especially when you step on mooshy things ... that can turn into slidy things once mooshed

We need to find a headlamp giveaway to enter! You need one of those asap.

Thanks for being such a wonderful supporter of me. I always look forward to your comments. Today's was awesome! Ending the giveaway I expect most to not even read my post (which I liked a lot actually). I expect most to skip to the winners not see their name and leave the "Congrats to the winners" comment. Thanks for not being that kind of bloggy friend! I really needed that this morning. *hugs*

I don't mind running in the dark, but I like that I have more options in the daylight.

Happy September!

I think running in the dark could be enjoyable, but I personally would need some source of light and most definitely a running partner that I feel safe with. Too many scary stories out there that keep me from even trying something like that alone, or running trails alone.

Don't you love being fit enough that a 10-miler feels short?

Love the morning 10 miler! Way to go Marlene. And yes, I think a headlamp would be a must.

Nice run! I have been noticing how dark it is in the mornings this week all of a sudden - craziness. Definitely get a headlamp, they are great for running in the dark (also changing a tire in the dark, should the need arise).

Last night I got caught in the dark. It got dark way earlier than I expected and I was not dressed for it. I went late to avoid this awful heat!

Great way to start the month for sure!! WTG

I am definitely impressed with the mid week long runs- I have a hard time fitting in runs at all. Before dark is a good time though. I've been thinking about that especially cuz its been so nasty hot here this week!

Your Summer's winding down and mine is just on the horizon. I really noticed this morning how much lighter It's getting. Makes it easier to see the road ... and the rocks that I usually stumble over.

Mwemlurrrr. Gosh, only 10 yesterday? How wimpy ;) jk of course. I remember when I was squeezing in 14 this time last year, with an 11-hr workday and 2 hours of commuting. Hmmm now that I put it that way I can see where I mightve gotten a bit run down you think?

Anyway. Nicely done as always! I hope I can be as dedicated and consistent as you in my rebuild :)
