DNS

Looks like tomorrow will be my first DNS. I went cross-country skiing this morning; seriously, who gets injured cross-country skiing??

Me, that's who.

We took a trail that was perhaps (in hindsight) too advanced for a first-timer. We encountered a steep downhill. I should have turned around.I didn't. Next thing I know, I'm flying through the air, limbs, poles and skis flailing, and I land hard on my right shoulder. It hurt a lot. With some help I was able to stand up and walk back to the chalet. They had an excellent first aid trailer and I was able to see a sports therapist. I was (am) in agony. She checked me over thoroughly and believes it's a sprain in the AC joint ligaments. She helped me slowly and painfully out of some layers (it was -30C with the wind chill), rolled up a blanket under my arm (shoulder hurts less that way) and put a sling around me for stability on the car ride home.

And then we got caught in a horrible traffic jam for 2 hours behind a multi-car collision on the way home. Talk about adding insult to injury.

I eventually made it home where family and friends have helped me get into jammies (although I will not be getting this sports bra off any time soon without scissors), positioned me on the couch, given me wine and painkillers (good combo) and fed me dinner. All I need now is a bed pan - and someone to empty it. Any volunteers?

Mom is taking me to the hospital tomorrow to have it checked out and hopefully get a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and pain killers. I have to say, I have not experienced pain like this in my life. Not sure what this means for running; I guess I will have to take it a day at a time. Good vibes would be appreciated.

I'll update when I can, but this has taken forever to type with just my left hand. Comments on your blogs may be sporadic (and laden with typos), but I'll be reading your posts and counting on you to keep me company. :)

PS - Who wants to come shovel my driveway?

Oh no! That's terrible. I hope you're OK. At least you didn't dislocate your shoulder which would be horrible (from experience). And your husband is far away, too. Geez.

I'm glad you're seeing a doctor tomorrow. Some xrays and pills should help ease the pain. Oh, and alcohol works extremely well.

Get better, Marlene!

Oh no-so sorry to hear about your fall. I hope it settles down overnight. One day at a time and don't worry yet about the running-it's Siberia out there anyway. Glad you're getting the shoulder checked out at the hospital tomorrow---if you find the pain is becoming unbearable, maybe consider going before then if possible. If it is indeed a sprain then it will heal.

Thinking good thoughts and sending them your way!

Oh no, I am so sorry to read this! Hope you heal quick!
BTW, love your foto Friday pics! Makes me wish my hubby ran. Have a good weekend, and good luck at the Dr. tomorrow

Sorry about your fall!! I hope you heal quickly. If its any consilation, I am not looking forward to freezing my rear off. I am stiff and sore from my 34K off, so I am just running to finish (well as quick as I can go so as not to freeze).
Rest up and take care. Do you have someone to pick up your flannel pants? (I can if not)

OH NO!!! That is horrible! I hope you're ok, get yourself to the hospital soon. That's one of the reasons I'm scared to do anything...so petrified of getting hurt. I turned into a wimp as I got older. Feel better!

Hope you're at least a bit better this morning--I decided not to do the race this am so I'm also a DNS--I figured two hours travel time wasn't worth it for 8K in the cold on my own--I'm going to the corner now to meet my regular neighbourhood running buddies for maybe 5K.

Oh man! Sorry about your sprain. Glad you are getting it looked at.

Cross country skiing is hard. You're actually not the first person I've heard of getting injured doing it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Ouch ouch! I'm sorry you hurt yourself. As a pharmacist I recommend lots and lots of wine to help with the pain:) Hope you're feeling better soon.

So sorry about your fall. That bites the big one. I hope you feel better soon and agree that wine may be the answer to your troubles.

Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear of your injury. I truly can imagine how painful it can be. I had a broken scapula once and I also had the separation thing happen--the day before a marathon. Did the run despite the pain and then went into serious spasms for days after. Be patient and hopefully it heals fast.
