Three Things Thursday

1. Yesterday afternoon, I started feeling overwhelmed. Christmas is coming... fast. We are crazy busy this weekend with 3 events, a photoshoot with my sibs AND a visit from the technician for our dryer. We still hadn't cleaned up or put the house back together from my painting extravaganza weekend and we had seemingly endless Christmas-related errands to accomplish. It's amazing how the time flies by when you spend all  of your "free" time running and/or at the gym. So... I did the unthinkable: I scrapped the run and convinced hubs to join me in accomplishing some tasks instead, followed by a late dinner.

And I don't regret it one bit. We had a great evening, our house has been re-stored, the tree is up and I feel tremendous relief. Ahhhhh....

2. After a couple of big weeks, 2010 miles for 2010 may very well be within. With about half of the month remaining, I have 109 miles to go. Any bets? Maybe if I stop skipping runs....

3. Yesterday a few of you asked for more information on Sparkpeople.com. You do need to sign up in order to use the site, but it's completely free!

Some of what Sparkpeople has to offer:
  • Personalized diet & fitness plans
  • Calorie counter, workout tracker, exercise demos & videos
  • Answers from our dietitians & trainers on message boards
  • Connect with others like you in our support teams
At the moment I'm primarily using the the site for its calorie counter; you simply search for foods from an enormous database and enter them on your daily Nutrition Tracker (records calories and all nutrients). You can also enter custom items that may not be listed.

The Recipe-Builder is a handy tool which allows you to enter the ingredients for a particular recipe, identify the number of servings, and it calculates the nutritional information per serving.

There is plenty more to offer and I definitely recommend checking it out if this sounds like something that could work for you.

Happy Thursday (almost Friday)!!

HBBC Ongoing Tally Week of Dec. 11-17

Spark is SO much more than a calorie tracker. It is a plan to build lasting healthy lifestyle habits by taking baby steps and building small streaks of fitness, eating, and other habits. The site is totally free - I have been on it for well over 4 years. I don't track my food though.

It's true how things just fall through the cracks when all of your free time is spent exercising!

I'm also close to 2010 miles for 2010 but we are having rain and floods at the moment. This morning our street was a river and the road to my running route closed because of flooding.

Glad you relieved some holiday stress, even if it was at the expense of a run. My money is on you for hitting that 2010 miles. If anyone can it's you!

I read your post yesterday and didn't get to comment on my phone (boo!) but awesome job girlie - so proud of you! From someone who did the weight loss thing just a few years back, your dedication will be paid in dividends.
Glad you got the house back together - I feel your pain!
I'm about 150 away from 2010 miles in 2010, I know I'm not going to make it - but do it for me, you got this lady!
Have a great Thursday!

Good choice scrapping the run and getting errands done. You'll be less stressed and can enjoy the run like you should.

Hai Marlene,

I found your blog through Heidi's blog and I like it very much. I've added you to my blogroll so I can visit you more often. I run too and perhaps I can learn from you.

You may have skipped the run but it sounds like you got some valuable cross-training done. Doesn't the world seem better when your house is in order?

109 to go? And I thought I was tight with 82 to go - hahaha. But, if anyone can do it ... it's you!

I love the route mapping tool in the fitness section of Sparkpeople. I use it ALOT!

I just wanted to let you know that I signed up for SparkPeople and after tracking one whole meal, I can easily see why I haven't lost weight! THANK YOU so much for posting about the site. I can't believe it's all free to use!! That saves me the $45/month I was about to spend on Weight Watchers. Hooray!! I will post my progress on my blog. There WILL be progress.
