10 days and the madness begins

I have checklists and schedules running through my brain at warp speed; this must be a sign that it's almost time! We have a quiet weekend ahead (finally!) so I'm planning to fine-tune the details and hopefully unwind a little.

Physically, I'm as prepared as I'm going to be. Mentally, I could be a little more prepared.

Any advice as to how one stops the voices from screaming "YOU CAN'T DO THIS! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?"

You mean other than the rational advice that what you're going through is completely natural? Yeah, that wasn't helpful for me, either.

Marlene, your goal is to finish and want to do a second marathon. Race day is your celebration for all of your training.

Start to visualize yourself passing through checkpoints and finally, crossing the finish line. Think about those long runs you did where you were a rock star.

And then... stop thinking about it. You'll rock this thing and a lot of people will be rooting for you to make sure you can do it!

Just watch the first minute! YOU CAN DO IT!!! I thought about it on my poopy long run on Sunday. And just remember "It doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop"

If Oprah and Katie Holmes can do it, so can you.

Marlene, it looks like we'll be having a partay next weekend! Looking forward to meeting up with Lily/Laurel and all her woo hoo friends. As for advice on the marathon? Believe in your training. Just get to the start line and think of each mile individually and don't think of the end until the end is in sight. You CAN do this!

Just trust in your training and yourself. As I tell my participants, there is nothing bad about finishing in third place! If you don't think you're going to win the race, you can still have fun. You'll do great.

Just keep rereading your training plan and all the successful runs you've already completed. Somehow convince yourself this is just another long training run and try to relax. You can and will do it.
