Tuesday Miscellaneous

• Why is it that after five days off and two days back at work, I feel like I need a weekend already?

• My boss caught me in a huge yawn this morning and offered me his Timmies.

• Hubby and I along with some of my family just booked a one week all inclusive trip to Cuba for Christmas this year. We stayed at the same resort back in 2002 so hopefully it's as awesome as we remember. We've never been away for Christmas or been south in the winter, so it's going to be amazing. I'm already dreaming of white sandy beaches and strawberry daiquiris...

• The best part is that just ten days after we get home, we take off again for a week at Disney World for the Goofy Challenge. It's going to be a memorable start to winter!

(See? All I can talk about is vacation! I need more time off...)

• Congratulations to Runner Leana who completed her very first Half Ironman over the weekend.

• Also, congrats to Marci for finishing her first ever triathlon this weekend (and she's already addicted).

• We're enjoying some cooler than seasonal temperatures this week and I, for one, am loving it! The high today is 19C/66F and it's not expected to be warmer than 25C/77F for the next week! If it stayed like this all summer, I'd be a happy camper!

• Speaking of camping... it looks like we'll be camping again for the Civic Holiday long weekend in August. My uncle invited us to a completely secluded property he owns on a lake up north and a lot of my family will be going. Party time! (I may have to run to work again before we leave.)

• I just finished reading Marathon Woman by Kathrine Switzer. It was a really good read - smart, funny, empowering and inspiring. Highly recommend for everyone, female runners especially. "Katherine Switzer ran the Boston Marathon in 1967 where she was attacked by one of the event's directors who wanted to eject her from the all-male race. She fought off the director and finished the race. From the childhood events that inspired her to winning the New York City Marathon in 1974, this liberally illustrated book details the struggles and achievements of a pioneering women in sports."

• My friend at work fell off her bike last week and suffered a fractured hip and a concussion, which resulted in short-term memory loss (yes, she was wearing a helmet). Reason #75638 that cycling scares me. She's not in good shape. Good thoughts for Susan, please!

• Does anybody know what happened to tfh?

• Running plan for the week: 12K MRP tonight, 10K easy tomorrow, 11K with 5K LT/tempo Thursday, 5K race Saturday, 24K Sunday. (=62K/38.5mi)

Your winter plans sound fabulous. We're starting to think about where we want to go next winter. We took off this year b/c of the house renovations...it's been a long year w/o my caribbean trip!

Sounds like a good book - its already on my list!

i love vacation...i need one right now and i've only been in full time job land for 6 days!

I love tim hortons! I think its only in NY and Canada right??

Cuba?? Cuba ?? Cuba?? Oh, that's right. Canadians have the right to go to Cuba and the Americans cannot go. It must have been like going back to the 1950s back in Havana.

Bikes scare me too! Hope your friend recovers soon.

With a long vacation last weekend and one coming next weekend, I keep thinking how long and miserable it is working a whole week this week - you're exactly right!

Cuba sounds amazing, as does the Goofy Challenge of course. Can't wait to read all about it.

If you hear anything from tfh please share - her email address is still posted on her blogger page, but I'm too scared to email. I nominate MCM Mama :)

Perfect running weather for sure! Keep it up-you're well on your way.

I know what you mean about needing a day off after a vacation! I am always more tired after that than if I just worked every day. Too much living in a short amount of time I guess! Hope your friend is okay. That is scary.

Wow-- good to see you have your winter planned out!!

Is the Goofy challenge the same as the Disney marathon weekend??? If so-- I think I am running then also!

Good thoughts to your friend. My husband broke his scapula (shoulder blade) biking this weekend when someone felt they owned the bike path. Racing for him is done for the year.

When you said your boss offered you his "Timmies" it sounded very dirty. I had to look at the link to discover that it's coffee :)

No clue about tfh but have been wondering the same thing. When I saw that her blog was deleted I got sad/worried. So then I tried to see if I had a cached page to get her email address but no luck :-( Weird. Very weird.

Yikes, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend! I certainly wish her a speedy recovery!!!
On another note--YAY FOR VACATIONS!!!!!!! I hear you--once you're back you only can think about leaving again! :)

Awesome about Cuba, you will love xmas in the south, it's quite different without the snow and xmas trees.

You're doing goofy? Kewl!

I don't know why you don't run at camping. It's always my favorite to get up as the sun starts to shine in the tent and go for a nice 10-15k and come back all sweaty and awake as my camping buddies are starting to emerge from slumber :)

I hope Susan recovers.
