Three Things Thursday

1. On Tuesday night, my Mom and I had awesome seats (4th row!!) at the Bon Jovi/Kid Rock concert. It was an excellent show! I danced and screamed and sang all night long and got home covered in grime and sweat, totally exhausted, with a scratchy voice and ringing in my ears. Of course I loved every minute of it! It was a very late night (1:30AM - I've been going to bed by 9:30 lately!) so needless to say, there was no morning run on Wednesday.

2. I had 8PM dinner plans with Juliana and the gang last night, which meant I needed to head out for my 10-miler right after work in the early evening heat. It was not pleasant! Fortunately I was able to meet up with our local run club and had some company for the last 10K. It felt like a slog, but turns out that my average pace was actually quicker than the last two Wednesdays.

3. Tonight is clinic night and the group will be tackling hill repeats. I'm opting out because I don't believe in them given the amount of hills we run on a regular basis, especially during our long runs. Hill repeats aggravate my IT band and it's not worth it to me to risk injury. Myself and a few others will head out for a steady run instead. With tempo runs on Tuesdays and medium-long runs on Wednesdays, I really should be taking it easy on Thursday anyways.

Happy Thursday (almost Friday)!

I always find it funny how I can turn into a screaming ROCK STAR during a concert. Makes me feel so young!

btw - husband and I were talking about a repeat Goofy at Disney this next year. Did you see that the fee is up to $310? Are they insane?!!! The medals would have to be gold at this point... :(

The concert sounds like it was fun. :) I don't like too many hills either, they can get aggravating.

Bon Jovi/Kid Rock concert? And with your Mom? She must be one rockin' mom. I LOVE THAT!!

I'm with you on #3...well I don't have any hills near me but they do really aggravate my IT band. :(

Ha, "I don't believe in them" - avoiding injury is always priority! Smart girl :) You guys do seem to run a Lot of hilly routes, you don't need the repeats on top of that!

My Canadian Idol is smart too? Once the injury bug hits, its hard to get back into the groove, smart decision.

3. I agree with you dropping out of the hill repeats. Smart not to aggrevate a potential injury AND I believe that regular hill running conditions the body better than scheduled hill repeats. I run hills every day (sometimes 2x a day). there is no getting away from hills where I live; road or trail. I know that I was able to do the 6k elvation gain/loss because of my regular running which inculded daily hills.

2. Isn't that odd. I find that sometimes when I feel like I am just dogging it, I have actually run faster than runs that seemed easy.

1. That's crazy. I was up till 1 a.m with screaming too. Oh, my was the toddler kind. Not as enjoyable. heehee I hope your throat recovered.

That is so weird that hills aggravate your IT. Better stay away from them (lucky you!!) Have a great run tonight!

good call on the hill repeats...no use doing them if they only cause problems and you already get your hills in.

i'm glad you had fun at the show!

I love hills--seriously, I do. I feel like they give the mentally tough and advantage. Since you run them all the time, it is prob okay to miss the repeats. Better to be injury free than over train and get injured for a few more hills

Sounds like a fun concert.

I'm learning to love hills, but I'm not a fan of hill repeats. It's amazing how just running on hills regularly makes flat races seem easy.

Jamie said...

dude, you have a tough schedule! glad you were able to get out and enjoy a fun concert!
