Three Things Thursday

1. Snowmageddon

We had a massive snow storm overnight Tuesday and all day Wednesday. To me, that means SNOW DAY (aka PJ Day). It was so nice to have a day at home in the middle of the week - I wish I could arrange that on a regular basis!

After a morning morning of shovelling and an afternoon mixture of daytime television, reading and house work, I ventured out in the blizzard to meet my usual Wednesday night run group. (Too snowy to go to work, but never too snowy to run!) I didn't expect a great turn-out given the conditions, but I had five friends to play run with in the snow.

As we plodded along laughing about what drivers must be thinking when they see us out there, one guy actually yelled out the window at us: "ROADKILL!"  Hmmm, maybe he should pay more attention to the road instead of rolling down the window to holler at pedestrians.... Who am I kidding? The window was probably already rolled down for his cigarette!  *cough* @$$hole *cough*

2. Check-up

I have my annual check-up at the doc this afternoon. My favourite part is the interrogation:

Do you smoke? No!
Drugs? No!
Coffee? No!
Alcohol? not enough not much
Exercise? Lots!
Date of your last period? Oh sorry, that's TMI...

3. Countdown

Today marks 100 days until this:

Thanks to all who read and commented on yesterday's post. As always, I appreciate your feedback. I've made some tweaks to the training plan and I'll be taking it one run, one day, one week at a time and listening closely to my body along the way. Pretty soon it will be time to start talking goals.

Happy Thursday (almost Friday)!
How is your week shaping up?

because i'm in my mid-forties. they now ask. "are you still having periods?" yes. then, "date of last period?"

honestly? am i THAT old?

We hardly got any snow here! I was bummed! I really need a snow day! I honestly hate drivers. They can be so mean sometimes. I don't understand why it is so hard to just move over and not ride the shoulder!

I yelled 'those hills' not 'roadkill'! And it was a cigar......

100 days! Yay! (Have I mentioned lately I love counting down with you?!?!?!)

Great job on the snow removal girl! And yay for being a crazy runner out in it! :)

The comment is kind of funny, given the timing, even if the guy was a jerk.

Asshole.

He was just jealous.

I bet you guys were cute roadkill at lest.

I didn't run as we have spin/core Wednesdays...and they had to cancel because the road to the clinic was jammed.
If hills are cancelled tonight because it isn't plowed my head might explode.
100 days?! Holy...

Seriously each time I read your posts I wish more and more I could be as hard core as you!!! Kudos to you for getting out there and running in the storm. We haven't had a full week since Christmas break...good now but not so nice come summer!

Ahhh spring marathons are approaching QUICKLY!!! eeee!

Can't stand that annual check up.

Good luck with the training. It's so easy to plow forward with enthusiasm until your body pipes up and says "HOLD IT! Too much, too soon." Just like your post yesterday. Be careful. Enjoy your training.

If one of you had made that comment as a joke, it would actually be funny. But, that guy...asshole for sure! :)
You are amazing Marlene...even if I could run these days, I know I wouldn't have gone out there yesterday evening.

Yay for a snow day! I got several "don't you think it's too cold for running" yells yesterday. I say "don't you think you're too fat for that cheeseburger?" :)

We did not see a plow here until 5pm yesterday so I was home-gym bound. Nice job getting out there despite the a'hole!

I woke up this morning and was sad when I realized it was not Friday :(.

LOVE that the snow did not stop you from joining your group. That freaking ROCKS!

What a jerk that guy is... jealous you got to stay home, Durham district School board cancelled buses but schools open. Waste of a day!

Jess said...

I miss snow days!

I always feel pretty good about dr check ups as well -- mostly b/c my blood pressure and HR are so low that they're always suitably impressed.

Char said...

Good on you. You're treating your body as a temple! My answers would have been the same - just reverse the coffee and alcohol ones.

ajh said...

Sounds like fun getting out with your friends after a snowy day!

Johann said...

Oh yes, nothing can keep you from running! Well done for getting out there! 100 days will fly past in no time.

What a jerk! I've been given some strange looks for running in the snow, but nobody has said anything like that!

if you ever figure out how to lock in a day off mid week, let me know :) it was great having a mini weekend in the middle of the week. although in a weird way it also made the week seem super long...

Okay, I'm SO sorry for your SNOW-NESS!!! I did love your chat with the doctor and the "alcohol?" "not much" comment...so true!!
Stay warm!

Bill Carter said...

Hi Marlene! So nice of you to stop by my blog to say "hi". It is going to be great to meet so many nice runners at the Martian. But, how many runners aren't just about the nicest people ever?
Best of luck with your training and I will see you in a few short wks.
