Marathon Redemption

I've registered for marathon #2!

September 27, 2009

I had originally planned to run the Toronto Marathon in October this year, but most of the group that I will be training with all summer will be working towards this event, so I've decided to go with the flow. A number of factors influenced my decision, but the primary reason is for the support I will have on race day. It's an incredible group with an amazing coach and I want to train with them from start to finish.

Plus, this gives me the opportunity to seek redemption at the course that chewed me up and spit me out last year. Look out, STWM, I'm coming back for more!

Woo hoo! They got rid of the spit, but i'm still scared of potential late-September heat. Oh well, I love that race anyways and I intend to set a PB in the half this year.

Congrats on setting your goals. I'm sure you can get revenge on this course, you've been doing fantastic so far this spring.

You make me want to run it again now, but I'm not sure I can deal with the training anymore.

Woo Hoo! I won't be running Scotia this year (week before St.George), but I'm sure Hubs will, so I will come and cheer!

Good luck, one race addict to another.

That will be awesome! I can't run Scotiabank, so am thinking about volunteering as a marshal! (I think I'll look good in the orange vest, and have a very loud cheering voice!)

Go get redemption at #2. I looked at that course map and it has a real attitude problem. You need to give it a good sock in the mouth.

That is strange. I do remember vividly staying at a Westin Hotel back in September 1983 in Toronto. It was my first time witnessing a marathon from the hotel room. I was in AWE. I said to myself whether I will ever run in a marathon in my lifetime. Now, the big question is why its 20th Anniversary of Toronto Waterfront Marathon. 1983 ??? It must have been a different name for Toronto Marathon. I will have to google this one.

Yes, indeed. I was right (almost) on track. It was October 2, 1983 and it was called Miller High Life Toronto Marathon. Who knew? Wow - I surely do remember this.
