TIaRT: Gratitude

The theme this week for Take It and Run Thursday at the Runners' Lounge is thank goodness for running.

I am thankful for running for my physical health.
Running is good for my physical well-being - I have never been in such good shape in my life. I am strong and fit. In addition, training also encourages and reminds me to maintain a healthy, wholesome diet. I'm much less-likely to indulge in junk food because I know that it impacts my running (ever try to run after eating McDonald's for dinner?). It also keeps me out of the wine... most of the time.

I am thankful for running for my mental health.
Running is my 'happy place'. If I have a bad day or have a lot on my mind, going for a run (even if I don't feel like it) will lift my spirits almost without fail. Sometimes it's the fresh air, sometimes it's the company (if I'm running with friends), often it's just the "me" time that I needed. I can go out and run for 30 minutes, an hour, even three hours, and for that time I don't need to worry about anything else. Not a care in the world! I almost always come back from a run in a better mood.

I am thankful for running for the challenge.
I thrive on the satisfaction of reaching new milestones and achieving goals. And each time I cross a finish line, I am overwhelmed with pride and a sense of accomplishment. A couple years ago, I would never have imagined I could do this. Now I feel like I can do anything.

I am thankful for running for new friends.
I have met an incredible group of people through my local running community. There are no less than 8 people that I can call or email at any time and almost always find a buddy or two to run with on a moment's notice. I didn't even know these people this time last year! Not to mention all of my wonderful bloggie friends - you motivate, encourage and inspire me. What would I do without you?

I am thankful that running is something I can share with my husband.
I am fortunate to have a hubby who also runs. While we don't always run together, we share the love of running, support one another's goals, share the triumphs and failures and perhaps most importantly, recognize the kind of commitment it takes to be the best runners we can be.

Without running we would all be super grumpy and annoying lol!

Having a husband as a running buddy is pretty awesome!

Awesome list chica! ITA! Except for the first one. I think running gives me MORE reason to indulge in the bad stuff :-X LOL

I'm missing my mental health that's why I need to start running soon LOL j/K

I do miss the stress reliever I get from it. Biking or swimming just isn't quite the same for me.

I would love to find a BF that is running too and participating in races as I want this to be a lifestyle... guess I should start by re-starting running before any of that =)

The new friends it a HUGE one for me. It's been a big door that has opened to a whole other world.

While I totally agree with the mental health part, I actually like that my husband doesn't run. Works out, yes, but doesn't run. In a way, I like that it's "mine."

All of these ring so true for me, but I especially like the challenge bit-- often, when I'm struggling, it's hard to remember that this is an aspect of running that makes me feel proud and accomplished.

Great list! I also wish my hubby would run but I don't think it will happen. I also think it is great to meet new people but I am having a hard time finding the local folk and those with the same crazy schedule. I guess that is why I like the blogs. People are all over!

You hit the naail on the head with the "challenge" one. How awesome is it to hit a new milestone, regardless of how it is to others, its YOUR milestone! A definite blog on my blog list now!

Nice list! Those are all great things to be thankful for and I totally agree with you on them. My hubby runs, but not with me. That's my time! (Plus, he's lucky to be able to run at lunch.)

First of all I love that ink. I'm toying with getting 26 lotuses on my thigh. I have a guy but it's going to be pricey.

All great reasons. I do think that wine, from time to time is a necessary vice.
