Weekend Recap

Thanks for all of your enthusiasm and support on Friday's post. If I shared my 2009 plans with anyone outside of the running-blog-o-sphere, I would surely be greeted with looks of disbelief and people asking "WHY?" From your comments, it looks like I will have the opportunity to meet up with Canadian bloggers at many of the events... now we just have to convince some Americans to join us. :)

I mostly stayed off the computer this weekend. Since I spend my week days more or less glued to my desk from 8 to 5, it's something I try to avoid outside of work. I'm caught up on everyone's blogs (I think?) so now it's my turn!

Saturday I woke up early for a quick 5K (actually, 5.65) before heading out of town for the day for my cousin's baby shower. I didn't experience any post-spinning soreness, but I was feeling the lead legs Saturday morning even after taking Friday off. I still finished the run in 32:15 for a 5:42/KM pace, which is about average for me.

Sunday morning I slept til 9 and woke up not feeling like running at all. It was cool and dreary, looked like rain and the couch and television were awfully appealing.

Me: I don't feel like a long run today.
Hubby: Well, I'm still running.
(5 minutes later)
Me: Fine, I'm coming with you.

So, we geared up and headed out into the chilly air. I had a route previously mapped in my head that took us past the Running Room for my mandatory 3K restroom break (EVERY TIME!), then through some older neighbourhoods and eventually to our favourite (paved) trail through the parks of Fairy Lake. There were some significant hills, but I was able to recover on the downhills and enjoyed the run. It was kinda nice having some company, even though he started pulling away from me in the last couple kilometres when I started fading (note to hubby: do you know what it means to run TOGETHER?! just kiddin'!). The numbers were: 14.10KM, 1:23:32, 5:55/KM.

We ran a few errands and had a mostly quiet afternoon. I sipped hot chocolate while watching hubby positioned himself on the roof hanging Christmas lights. I know it's early, but this is our first Christmas in a house and I just couldn't wait!

My pseudo-plan for this limbo week is as follows:

Monday: 5K + yoga class
Tuesday: High Octane Training class
Wednesday: rest
Thursday: 5K (AM) + spin class (PM)
Friday: 7.5K
Saturday: Boot Camp class
Sunday: 20K

Good stuff honey! Keep it up!

My waife already made me hang up the lights. So don't feel bad. Your past post has made me start to plan out some races for next year. I will hopefully post that in a few weeks.

Sounds like a nice weekend! Running with someone is exactly the cure to the "I don't wannas" and it's nice that the cure lives with you!

I have the same computer-free attitude about the weekends-- I spend way too much facetime with the computer on M-F! Anyway, nice runs this weekend. If I had a house I would definitely want it to look festive as early as possible!

Sounds like a good weekend. I'm still a little intimidated by your 2009 race schedule. I don't have any definite races yet--I feel like such a slacker. This is, however, my favorite time of year. I love poring over the race calendars putting the race schedule together.

That's wonderful you can have your hubby running with you!

Dang girl, your weekly plan is as busy as next year's race plan!!

I do enjoy reading about Canadian events too. I really hope to get in a few good ones this year! I love that your husband can run with you. Mine likes to say that it only because we have kids to look after but I am pretty sure that even without them he would not be that interested. I prefers his athletics be in ice with sticks and pucks - and only once a week. :)

Well done on the weekend run!

Oh I don't think I could stay in bed if my hubby was going running!! He's the same way, too. :-)

Ok, I'll consider a Canadian marathon next year. Maybe the Niagra Falls?

wow-a 20K is more than maintenance! Good idea to keep it going before eating season gets underway.

Ha - love that you know your body so well that you can predict the bathroom breaks! My hubby does the same. Even thought we're supposed to be running "together" he is so competitive that he feels the need to run about one stride ahead of me. I play his game for a while and then I speed WAY up. He can't hang for long. HA! Great week plan!

How great that your husband is a (mostly) running buddy. That kind of motivation is tough to beat. Good luck in 2009!

It is great to have other runners to share our plans for running that our friends perceive as self-torture :) It's great to get support from people who understand! Good luck having an awesome 2009! I'll be sure to check in often to see what's new and read your reports :)
